Oculus Truly Immersive Virtual Reality
Many of us have seen the movie, MATRIX, and wondered if there are was a time when what was shown in the movie i.e. virtual teleportation of our own bodies into a virtual world, was indeed possible.
How about the idea of walking through your future house without having actually built it? Or is there a way for all of us to do Virtual Touring, a concept only dreamt of? Well, I think what you’re about to witness could be the essaying of a whole new era of “smart reality” which is going to take the world by storm. Wait!! Am I too late? It has already taken the world by storm.
Born from a small Kick starter project, this product company, OCULUS RIFT is now soaring high in the world of gaming and virtual environments. But wait, it is not a game. It is a Head Mounted Display (HMD) that transforms your game into a virtual living environment where you feel as much a part of it as the very characters of the game. Weren’t you imagining and talking about such possibilities 10 years ago and wondered if there could ever be a time when it was possible to walk into a virtual environment (of course, not literally)? OCULUS RIFT is a state-of-the-art, low-latency, high field-of-view head mounted display. Yes, the company is also named after the product. It is well and truly an eye-opening experience (in the literal sense) as one is slowly absorbed into what is now coming to be known as “Immersive Gaming”. Not just that, demos of a virtual theatre-like experience from the very comfort of our home have already passed the test with flying colours.
Imagine what such a device can do. It can be used in fields such as the military, medicine, automobile design, and even fitness. Games like Half Life have also become Oculus compatible thereby paving the path for more and more games to think about their game plan in a totally different angle. The best part of this headset is that it has been made to be affordable for the common man. That was the intention behind this brainchild of Palmer Luckey’s who himself is a Virtual Reality enthusiast. Having had a platoon of such devices with him, he along with his forum-found buddy, John Camrack, built this prototype and showcased it in one of the Electronic Expos in 2012 on the game, DOOM. However, this was planned to cater to not just games but also in fields such as movies, TV shows and Live Sports. With Oculus Rift, you can now see the world in a totally different light. Happy viewing everyone.
