KitKat UK recently launched an Augmented Reality campaign that works with its “4-Finger” bar packages.

Each of the new bar packages has a specially designed “AR” marker on the KitKat four-finger packages that hit the shelves in late August.

The experience was created by the independent agency Skive Digital of London.

The Companion 2015 is a future scenario for an Augmented Reality environment which improves a variety of procedures for travelers at modern traffic-knots like airports or train stations. The Companion 2015 guides the user with fast and fluent Augmented Reality navigation through check-in and departure-areas. Personal data can be transferred with the dragn’n'drop-gesture from the personal device onto public devices or ticketing stations. It speeds up check-in procedures and introduces a paperless check-in and boarding process. There are no more luggage-tags needed, instead the system uses RFID-technology to identify your bag.

Technological basis

The Companion 2015 is based on technologies which are available today. These technological environments such as Augmented Reality, WiFi-Communication and RFID-identification do not work fast and stable enough nowadays. Our scenario predicts that they will be used widely in the society in the next 5 — 10 years. These technologies will interact seamlessly, thus allowing the user to focus on his traveling experience and not wasting time with manually entering travel details.

Augmented reality is taken to the next, all-immersive level in Keiichi Matsuda’s film, recently presented at London’s 3D Film Festival at the Barbican. The architecture graduate and filmmaker has imagined a future world overlaid with digital information, whose built environment can be transformed at the touch of a few buttons. ‘The architecture of the contemporary city is no longer simply about the physical space of buildings and landscape,’ says Matsuda. ‘More and more it is about the synthetic spaces created by digital information that we collect, consume and organise; an immersive interface may become as much part of the world we inhabit as the buildings around us.’

The world’s first ever Immersive Technology Summit will be held at the Los Angeles Center Studios (LACS) on October 21st, 2010.
