LOVELAND- CO November 7 – Videomapping, an advanced 3-dimensional projection technique that produces life-like visuals that interact with the contours of buildings, had its Denver-area premiere at Promenade Shops at Centerra, November 4th and 5th.

Two site-specfic shows, one based on the evolution of the Colorado environment, and an Escher-style ‘impossible rooms’ production, were projected onto the 60-foot-tall x 120-foot-wide exterior of Macy’s department store.

Using state-of-the-art high-lumen projectors and cutting-edge visual design software, New York City-based multimedia design lab Integrated Visions Productions created both immersive videomapping experiences for the Promenade Shops.

A window into geologic Colorado… to abstract dreamscapes
The first five-minute video will explore the environment of Colorado and its development over time, using trompe l’oeil effects to turn the Macy’s wall at the Promenade shops into a window into geologic time.

The second video is an abstract show that challenges conventional notions of reality, employing “impossible rooms” animations, sequences inspired by dreamscapes and fractal geometry, featuring the skills of a cutting-edge particle animator.

The Promenade Shops at Centerra approached Integrated Vision Productions with the goal of hosting Colorado’s first videomapping extravaganza. The company wanted to create a landmark spectacle to help the Center stand out from competitors in the Denver area, and decided that a cutting-edge videomapping event was a perfect fit.

The Centerra management team gave Integrated Visions Productions the freedom to create a mind-blowing, unforgettable experience. Thrilled at the prospects of letting their creativity run wild, the Integrated Vision Productions’ team proposed two groundbreaking shows that advance the medium of videomapping and amazed spectators.

iOS & Android users get treated to a live performance from everyone’s favorite Japanese aqua-haired internet sensation with the latest application from Toyota.

San Francisco, September 19th, 2011 - metaio in partnership with Toyota Motor Sales (TMS), announced today that Hatsune Miku, Japan’s most popular virtual pop-star, will perform “live” on stage in 3-D with the 2011 Toyota Corolla in her own Augmented Reality (AR) experience. The experience is available through the free Toyota Shopping Tool App in the iTunes App Store and the Android Market.

Hatsune Miku is a fully synthesized vocal and visual character created by Crypton Future Media, Inc. in 2007. Her voice has been featured in more than 100,000 user-generated songs and videos. Toyota chose Hatsune Miku as the official representative of the 2011 Corolla because they both realize big dreams in compact packages. The best-selling compact car, Corolla’s updated exterior and interior design and technology features allow it to stand out from the compact vehicle category, much like Hatsune Miku does in her field.

Smartphone users can download the app and follow the instructions on “ToyoTag”, a special 2D barcode solution created specifically for this experience. The ToyoTag acts as a virtual “stage” where the 3-D Hatsune Miku performs “live” alongside her favorite car, the 2011 Toyota Corolla.

Toyota wanted to utilize the most advanced technology to allow consumers, Corolla lovers, and devoted Hatsune Miku fans alike to interact with the best-selling compact car and the blue-haired songstress in a completely new way. Users can even take photos with Hatsune Miku and share them directly with their friends after the show finishes. Using advanced image recognition technology, metaio is able to recognize and track any image and overlay interactive digital and 3-D content- in this case, the popular Hatsune Miku and the best-selling Toyota Corolla. “The Hatsune Miku AR experience is an entertaining, interactive way of engaging Toyota fans,” says Toyota Motor Sales Digital Marketing Manager, Michael K. Nelson. “metaio is a great partner for Toyota in working towards wider-scale applications of AR in the auto industry. We’re very excited about the future opportunities.”

Toyota integrated the experience into their #1 app through metaio’s junaio Plugin, a way to take content from the metaio’s free mobile application, junaio, the world’s most advanced AR browser, and put it directly into an existing Android or iOS app. “The junaio Plugin provides a convenient and efficient solution in taking existing mobile apps and integrating rich, robust AR functionalities like this Hatsune Miku Corolla experience,” says Lisa Murphy, project lead and metaio Sr. Business Development Manager. “I am thrilled that we were able to work with Toyota to take the virtual Hatsune Miku and make her a reality. We look forward to working together with Toyota in the future to make augmented reality an integral part of the customer purchasing experience.”

metaio is pleased to continue to build on the idea that Toyota Corolla and Hatsune Miku realize big dreams in compact packages by bringing such a large experience to the convenience of Toyota’s existing mobile application.

Plug-in for Autodesk 3ds Max Software Allows Users to Instantly Interact with 3D Models

ROCHESTER, N.Y., June 30, 2011 /PRNewswire/ — Vuzix Corporation (TSX-V: VZX, OTC:BB: VUZI, FMB: V7X) (“Vuzix” or the “Company”) today announced MaxReality™, a new third party software plug-in for Autodesk® 3ds Max® software. MaxReality is an augmented reality authoring system that allows users to interact with 3D virtual models in the physical world and share the experience with others with the free stand alone MaxReality Viewer application.

Autodesk’s 3ds Max is the industry standard for the creation of 3D content; used to design objects ranging from industrial equipment and architectural layouts to the life-like animated characters seen in movies and video games. MaxReality empowers 3ds Max users to bring their creations to life on their desk using a webcam and their computer screen or in the first person 3D using Vuzix’ augmented reality Video Eyewear products.

“MaxReality allows anyone to easily have interactive augmented reality experiences. We now allow designers to instantly experience their 3D projects and creations instead of having to wait hours or even days for physical models to be built,” statedPaul Travers, CEO of Vuzix Corporation.

In just one click, designers can export their 3ds Max creations into an interactive augmented reality experience powered by MaxReality’s special effects and motion control tools. For instance, an architect can view the building that was just designed in the physical space that it will occupy. Using MaxReality the architect can then manipulate the building and experience it lifesize from a first person viewpoint and all with a stereoscopic 3D view. In other instances, MaxReality can also be used as a training tool with technicians looking at a physical engine bay seeing how to perform complex service operations using a step-by-step guide facilitated by digitally overlayed parts and indicators. With MaxReality, the objects in your augmented world are limited only by your imagination. First Person 3D augmented reality experiences are available by using Vuzix STAR™ 1200 or Wrap 920AR eyewear in conjunction with the product. MaxReality processed content files can be viewed using the freely available MaxReality Viewer. A 30-day free trial of MaxReality is available for download at www.vuzix.com/ar.

NEW YORK NY April 11- GoldRun, a leading mobile augmented reality platform, has raised $1.1 million in angel funding. Participants in the round include Ed Mathias (The Carlyle Group), financier Jon Ledecky, Jeremy Zimmer (Founding Partner of United Talent Agency), Jim Hauslein (Former Chairman and CEO of Sunglass Hut), and Mark Ein (CEO of Venturehouse Group).

New York-based GoldRun will use the funding to develop a series of new user and client side feature sets that will greatly expand the range of programming and AR interactions on their platform. The funds will also support increased sales activities and accelerate the deployment of services across the U.S. and international markets. 2011 will see the introduction of GoldRun-hosted gaming, v-commerce and user generated content.

Comprised of a mobile app coupled with a dynamic content delivery system, GoldRun uses augmented reality to bring the visually-driven, content rich experiences of the web into the offline world. By GPS-linking 2D and 3D virtual goods to physical locations such as retail stores, airports and events, GoldRun enables users to locate, interact with and take pictures alongside virtual objects, and earn immediate, relevant real world rewards for every one of these interactions.

GoldRun launched November 1st, 2010 and has since worked with H&M, Airwalk, Young & Rubicam, Esquire, Barnes & Noble, Marc Ecko, Universal Pictures, A&E Network, Sorel, Interscope Records and Oklahoma University among others.

“GoldRun allows for a new form of communication where our digital and physical lives meet,” says founder/CEO Vivian Rosenthal. “We’ve already evolved beyond check-ins, making them visually-driven and image-based. With the integration of location and context, along with photo taking and sharing, we’ve set ourselves apart by creating a new virtual goods economy mapped onto the real world.”

As part of the financing, Ed Mathias and Jeremy Zimmer will join GoldRun’s board of directors; Greg Golkin and Evan Morgan will serve as board observers.

Consumers have a fun, easy way to save money, find coupons on the go through the augmented reality application

LARGO, FL and SAN FRANCISCO – March 29, 2011 - Valpak Direct Marketing Systems / Cox Target Media and junaio today announced the Valpak coupons will now be available on the junaio app, allowing consumers to save money at nearby businesses with geo -targeted coupons that pop up on their smartphones.

With the Valpak coupons on the junaio app, consumers don’t wait to receive coupons, the geo-location coupons are available whenever they want them. The app launches the smartphone’s camera and GPS to overlay a set of 3D icons in real-time, showing the available Valpak coupons in the vicinity as the user scans the surroundings, with a radius varying from 5 feet to 20 miles away. The coupons and offers literally “pop up” on the screen.

Users can view local coupons, savings and deal offers from the convenience of smartphones anywhere and anytime, and find deals from thousands of local and national brands using the app. Consumers can view and redeem Valpak mobile coupon offers for their favorite businesses in the area by showing the local merchant the Valpak coupon(s) displayed on their smartphone.

The Valpak coupon channel puts the consumer at the center focus, delivering content based on the consumer’s location, or geo-location. The app uses the innovative technology of augmented reality, which combines real and virtual, making the experience interactive and 3D.

The Valpak coupon channel on the junaio app is the world’s largest augmented reality mobile coupon application. To
experience this feature, users can download the free junaio application, created by metaio, the leader in AR technology,
from either the iTunes Store or Android Market and select the “Local Coupons by Valpak” channel.

“Providing Valpak content on the junaio platform extends the reach our advertisers achieve when they purchase Valpak
advertising,” according to Nancy Cook, Vice President of New Media Business Development for Valpak/Cox Target Media. “Our content distribution strategy is to be everywhere consumers look for savings. Valpak content appears on many different apps and platforms. That’s good for consumers and good for our advertisers.”

“Partnering with junaio gives us access to a new audience and gives them a fun, interactive way to see which local businesses are offering savings, and then connect to the offer,” said Cook. “Now consumers can find discounts on their favorite nearby businesses as they are walking by them or discover new favorites in the neighborhood.

”In addition to this augmented reality, app, the familiar Blue Envelope and Valpak.com, Valpak offers available via apps for
the five major mobile platforms, recently launched Valpak Deals daily deals site, and offers SMS texting for advertisers.

Sweepstakes. To bolster interest in the premiere of the new A&E series,
http://www.aetv.com/breakout-kings which centers on an unconventional partnership between the U.S. Marshals’ office and a group of convicts, the “Catch A Con” promotion invites iPhone users to hunt down augmented-reality fugitives hiding out in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Philadelphia and San Francisco.

Enlisting the GoldRun iPhone app as their crime-fighting guide, participants can locate and capture virtual escapees who are laying low in areas such as New York’s Union Square, Philadelphia’s Rittenhouse Row and Chicago’s Magnificent Mile. GoldRun images of participants apprehending cons will be featured on the A&E Facebook page.

“Catch A Con,” part of the larger “Breakout Kings” promotional campaign, which includes vibrant, orange jumpsuits peppered throughout the five cities, as well as live “cons” on the run in high-traffic areas, was developed by Civic Entertainment Group using the tools and features of GoldRun’s AR platform.

“GoldRun is designed to support just this type of premiere,” says GoldRun vice president of business development Shailesh Rao. “What sets us apart from other mobile and AR marketing efforts is how we can quickly and affordably implement customized campaigns that bridge brand values with the user experience. In the case of ‘Catch A Con,’ pulling people directly into the plotline of ‘Breakout Kings,’ with participants literally chasing down and apprehending cons.”

The “Catch A Con Sweepstakes” runs through March 31, 2011. “Breakout Kings,” the new ensemble drama from the producers of the hit show “Prison Break,” premieres this Sunday on A&E, at 10:00 pm.

With the world`s first integrated markerless 3D object tracking demo on a smartphone, various co-operations with chipset
manufacturers and OEMs and visionary showcases metaio gives an outlook onto where AR is heading: robust, useful and everyday AR experiences.

Making Life Easier with Augmented Reality

Munich / Barcelona, February 10th 2011 – At this year`s Mobile World Congress (MWC) metaio`s technology will be visible all over the place. The Unifeye Mobile SDK and the world`s most advanced AR browser junaio are being featured and presented on various platforms, devices, chipsets and exhibition stands. As a highlight the first integrated markerless 3D object tracking showcase will be presented. Furthermore CTO Peter Meier is sharing his vision and thoughts in two major augmented reality sessions . And last but not least metaio will present its roadmap for the junaio 3.0 release.

At least since Google CEO Eric Schmidt coined the phrase of an “augmented humanity” – for the last time within his keynote at the DLD conference in Munich two weeks ago – there is no doubt, that enriching the real world with virtual data is one of the game changing technologies of the future. Aligned by market forecasts saying that the “AR market” could be a 732 million dollar market (Juniper Research) already in the next five years and that the worldwide smartphone sales will exceed 1.1 billion by 2013 (Parks Associates) the whole mobile industry casts an eye on augmented reality. The technology is one of the hottest topics for this year`s MWC.

For widespread and daily usage however the whole eco-system -still in a phase between infancy and an adolescent hype – has to work closely together in order to deliver useful, robust, smooth and still fascinating augmented reality experiences. The “Wow” factor will expire, but the true potential will come out even beyond our imagination. In order to take full advantage of augmented reality and to finally bring the technology to the mainstream of smartphone users, chipset manufacturers, carriers and technology providers have to cooperate closely. Improving the performance, experience, usability and capabilities of AR applications is crucial for broad adoption and daily usage.metaio`s AR software Unifeye Mobile SDK and their, currently seen by many experts, most advanced AR browser junaio offer for example vision based AR and go far beyond compass/GPS based approaches. However, multimedia tightly registered to the physical space triggered by planar objects is computationally intensive and requires a tight integration of hardware and software. metaio CTO Peter Meier summarizes: “With the computational challenges of an augmented vision in mind, a markerless trackable real world, cooperations between hardware and software providers become even more important.” Working closely together with leading chipset manufacturers for an optimized software/hardware integration is where metaio puts its development efforts – besides constantly working on new tracking methods and backend approaches with many patented solutions. The latest results will be shown at the Mobile World Congress 2011.

For further information and press announcements regarding metaio @MWC2011, please refer to: metaio.com/mwc2011
We would love to get in touch and give you an in depth introduction to our very own augmented vision of the future.

Image: Although the correct description “mobile markerless tracking algorithm optimized for dual-core chips” sounds very
complex, the demo shows how easy life can be with AR. For example by getting virtual service instructions of a printer
embedded into the live video.

Munich and San Francisco, 2011.1.26 – Yesterday was a historic day for television. For the first time ever, viewers could actively participate in a live television show and react to things shown on the TV screen by simply using a smartphone and the augmented reality browser junaio. The occasion was a live quiz of the popular German science show ProSieben “Galileo” and it was just like having a TV set with a touch screen. Pointing the phone`s camera at the displayed choice of answers and clicking on one of the options was all that was needed to get instant feedback on whether the viewer`s choice was right and how well he was doing compared to others. This interesting breakthrough technology could open up many new opportunities for news networks and popular shows like “American Idol”.

The idea of interactive television with viewers being able to cast their vote in real time, to transmit their opinion or to participate in a quiz show has been around for decades. To date though, popular entertainment shows were only able to offer a very limited form of viewer participation by having viewers send text messages or using batteries of call centres. Now, for the first time everybody was able to actively participate in a bi-directional communication, provided he had a smartphone available, and junaio, which can be downloaded for free at the Apple iStore or the Android Marketplace.

Different from any normal feedback app, the AR image recognition assures that only those actually seeing the show can participate . It is not hard to imagine the different opportunities this technology opens up. The trick during the “Galileo” quiz was to point the smartphone camera directly at the choice of alternative responses displayed on the TV screen. junaio uses a technology called digital image recognition. The scanned screen image triggers communication with the station`s server via internet and thus establishes a bi-directional transmission of information. With just a click on the touch screen of the smartphone the viewer`s response is transmitted. Results are displayed instantly, both at the station`s end and on the smartphone. The viewer then sees immediately whether his answer was right or wrong, which percentage of viewers answered correctly and how many questions he has gotten right himself so far.

The public showed great interest in this technology. The number of junaio downloads was staggering, and for ProSieben “Galileo”,who advertised the show well in advance, it was a huge success. ”Galileo” was number one in German twitter trends and ratings shot up to 14% in market share among 14 to 49 year old viewers. ProSieben is committed to continue integrating such augmented reality services in future shows. Yesterday`s experiment can be considered a first important step towards truly interactive television, offering a simple and elegant solution to instant user feedback and messaging without requiring any special and complicated equipment.

“Viewer polling is one thing”, says Peter Meier, CTO of metaio, the developers of junaio. “Another idea could be to offer films or documentaries based on the audience`s spontaneous choice. Or to make additional information available, such as a chef`s recipe, and transmit it at a viewer`s request directly onto his smartphone. News networks can take an instant temperature check of viewer attitudes. Someone on Twitter already suggested using this for the popular show “American Idol”. Breakthrough technologies such as junaio will provide the media industry with entirely new possibilities of user interaction.”

Yahoo!, Sunnyvale, CA, January 25- Outside a busy conference room on Yahoo!’s campus, a newly installed, hands-free interactive video-wall “sees” passersby, launches its attract program, and having engaged someone, presents details of key Yahoo! properties. Designed and produced by creative studio http://www.tronicstudio.com, the “Yahoo! Bang” project follows the success of the New York City-based firm’s gesture-based installations for GE, at the Shanghai World’s Fair, and for Xerox, in major USA airport terminals.

Even without posted instructions, no one can pass the massive (12w by 8h) nine-screen installation without realizing that it has sensed their presence and initiated a greeting (attract). The sequence opens with the “Y bang” – the life-size Yahoo! logo, replicated as a monolithic stacking of tiles, each of which is an interactive icon representing one of Yahoo!’s interactive properties – Finance, Sports, News or Shine (horoscopes).

“The gesture-based installation is actually a brand-learning tool that allows people to interact with key Yahoo! properties and experience them in a new way rather than through touch, track-pad or mouse interaction. Instead you interface with something that feels alive in front of you,” said Tronic co-founder Vivian Rosenthal.

Hello Yahoo! What Do You Know?
The sequence opens with an attract mode – the “Yahoo! logo composed of stacked tiles. As you walk by the display begins to interact with you, the tiles slowly following to catch your attention. At this point most people stop and look. Then, even a simple movement, like shifting your shoulders or raising your arms, will cause the tiles to mimic your movements.

Yahoo!’s agency Goodby Silverstein Partners commissioned Tronic, telling them is was important that there be no instructions whatsoever. Rather, people should discover the display’s almost lifelike quality on their own, play with it, and become familiar with
its response patterns. “You actually build a sort of relationship with the display,” said Tronic co-founder Vivian Rosenthal. “People told us repeatedly that it was great not to have instructions because it enabled them to explore the interface and discover its characteristics on their own terms.”

Having engaged the display, your gestures and hand movements will sculpt the tiles, moving them around, piling them up, even pushing them off the screen. “Whatever one’s movements, the tiles follow your gestures and move to your body shape,” said Tronic partner Jesse Seppi. “Or, for example, by extending your arms wide you can cause some tiles to actually fly off the edges of the screen.”

From Shy to Playful… on the Carousel
As Tronic’s designers watched people interact with the display they noticed that at first most were coy and gentle, but as they continued to interact their movements became more playful, even aggressive. Quick movements trigger the display’s “carousel mode,” which presents an informative program.

In carousel state you actually select individual tiles that fly forward to display tidbits of information, some of which is drawn from live feeds from the Yahoo! website. For instance, one can call up daily horoscopes, world news or sports scores. “It was cool to discover that you are not only learning about Yahoo! properties but are getting real-time information through this interactive environment, a feeling not that different than in the movie ‘Minority Report,’” said Rosenthal.

Initially, 15 individual Yahoo properties are featured. Eight in the Carousel, of which four (Finance, News, Shine and Sports) pull data directly from the Yahoo website). Discussions are ongoing to add more properties and interactivity to the display, such as scrolling or clicking into a property for a deeper information dive.Tronic maintained a high degree of design control, even formatting tiles by pulling raw feeds off the Yahoo! website. “Obviously, we maintained the Yahoo! brand look but it is possible to completely art direct every nuance of the experience to create any desired look,” said Rosenthal.

When no one is present the system cycles through a series of idle animations that highlight various Yahoo properties.

The Yahoo! project is an extension of Tronic’s experiential, interactive work in the out-of-home space, specifically the firm’s gesture-based airport installations for Xerox (featuring Marriott Hotels and Target) and it “Visible You for GE imaging Systems.

“Our work for Yahoo! encompasses a nice melding of story-telling that you might find in a CG spot with the ability to have one-to-one interaction,” added Tronic’s Rosenthal. ” We are very enthusiastic about this new creative space since it brings together experiential design with advertising.

According to Rosenthal, the response from Yahoo has been fantastic. “Everyone keeps asking what’s next. What can we add to the experience?” The answer – a lot, it’s very exciting.”
