Augmented Reality Gets a Major Face.com Lift

Comverse demonstrated what they say is the first social augmented reality app during the Mobile World Congress. The application takes advantage of Face.com’s facial recognition algorithms and its huge database of faces to deliver such functionalities as friend recognition that links his or her face with an appropriate profile. In addition, the application can be used for dealing with acquaintances, as it can practically connect people before they even know each other’s names, which makes it a neat networking tool.

In terms of availability, I’m not sure the application is readily available, but I’ve no doubts we’ll be all hearing about it when it officially launches.
