Definitely an attractive concept, however multiple devices would be required for use. It would probably take months or even years to build just one, and because it needs another device to run off of, you would also need to make it so it would be able to communicate with an external device, and fitting that into a contact lens would not be easy.

Also, you would have to account for things like eye movement, the fact that such a heads-up display would also have to integrate holograms that would react to the touch of your fingers, etc.

So the technology required to build something like this and of this magnitude and size probably won’t be available for at least the next 50 years, if even that. We might see some shoddy beginnings that we’ll laugh at later, just as most advanced technology has to make use of current capabilities until something better is developed.

But this would definitely be an interesting step in man’s integration with technology.

An amazing concept. Think of it! To be able to access the world of the internet without the constraints of having to be tied down to a fixed point like a computer connected to a wall or carrying a pad of some sort or phone. Everything will be right in front of you. To be able to access information on the go in an instant. With this type of device, everyone will be on the same playing field. No one person will be more smarter that any other because of this artificial connection to all information available on the web. All of us will be geniuses. Think of what we can achieve if the whole world were connected to each other in this way. Think of how this device can bring the world even closer to each other. There will be no more need of school as we know it. A programmed holographic teacher is but a click away to teach any and all subjects from primary level to Doctorate level. To think about it, why would you need to be taught? If you want the information, then google it or I-lens it. You can also check what your children are studying by accessing their I-lens through your own I-lens. Of course you can put restrictions on their I-lens to control the material they see as you can with current systems, but you can do it in instant from anywhere. I predict one negative that this device will bring with it. Information from the internet will be policed and secured so as to give the ability to corporations to sell information for a price. A much higher price! The internet as we know it will cease because to control information you must destroy free internet capabilities. Only then can you make a profit. Think of it, it all comes back down to who can afford it. Just because we can…does that mean we should? Example, The Atom bomb!

This appears to be something achievable within 10-20 years. They can put LED’s on a lense and project. The theoretical minimum size of a laser is a few atoms wide. They’re doing animal testing: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-15817316
